Pakistan vs South Africa Super8 T20 World Cup Live Cricket Today

Four top contenders for the World Twenty20 title resume battle on Friday (today), looking for ways to emerge unscathed from the tougher of the two groups in the Super Eights round.

Top-ranked South Africa take on Pakistan and India clash with Australia in a sold-out double-header at the Premadasa stadium in Colombo to launch the opening skirmishes in group two.Pakistan vs South Africa Super8 T20 World Cup Live Cricket Today

All four teams showed their prowess by winning both matches in the preliminary league and now face a fight to finish to book two semi-final spots from the group.

“It is a tough group,” South African captain AB de Villiers said on Thursday.

“Any of the sides can beat each other on any given day, so it is going to be a great challenge.

“But if we play good cricket, we will be difficult to stop. We have prepared well for this tournament, to the extent that we are ready for even the Super Over if that becomes necessary.

The Super Over — where teams scoring more runs in six balls from an opposition bowler win — comes into play if a match is tied.

The South African captain’s main worry ahead of Friday’s clash against Pakistan was how his team will cope against prolific off-spinner Saeed Ajmal.

Asked if his batsmen had been able to understand Ajmal’s action, de Villiers said: “Not really but there are not many batsmen who can read Ajmal.

“We have studied him closely and analysed his action. The important thing will be to watch the ball closely.”

Pakistan skipper Mohammad Hafeez insisted his team was not even thinking about the game against India, the first T20 international between the arch-rivals since the 2007 World Twenty20 final.

“We take it match by match,” said Hafeez.

“Our immediate focus is on how we are going to tackle a strong side like South Africa. We will think about the others later.”

Hafeez said Pakistan’s game plan revolved around spinners Shahid Afridi and Ajmal, saying the duo were capable of restricting the best batting line-ups.

Pakistan vs Bangladesh ICC T20 World Cup Live Cricket Score

Title aspirants Pakistan would look to ensure a Super Eight berth by topping their pool when they take on minnows Bangladesh in their final Group D clash of the ICC World T20 cricket tournament here totay.

Pakistan and Bangladesh have clashed five times since the inception of the format and the former has always emerged victorious in the slam-bang battles.

Pakistan, the 2009 World T20 champions, are among the favourites to clinch a second title and led inspiringly by opener Mohammad Hafeez, the team looked every bit a genuine contender in its 14-run triumph over New Zealand in the opening group clash yesterday.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, were blown away by the Kiwis in their lung-opener and it would be tough for them to regroup easily against another tough opponent.

It was a rare clinical performance by the infamously temperamental Pakistan with the entire top half of batting making decent contributions.

The bowlers were also disciplined with their miserly spells, stifling the Kiwi line-up -- Saeed Ajmal being the star with a four-wicket haul.

Led by Hafeez, all the top order batsmen, be it Nasir Jamshed or Imran Nazir, made good contributions. Umar Akmal too was in his element during his cameo but all-rounder Shoaib Malik remains a worry.Pakistan vs Bangladesh T20 World Cup ESPN Star Cricket Live Telecast

Sending him ahead of the aggressive Shahid Afridi against New Zealand didn't work as Pakistan's scoring rate suffered and it would be interesting to see how the line-up shapes up tomorrow.

The bowling attack looks just perfect for the conditions with Ajmal, against whom most of international batsmen have so far struggled to get going, being Pakistan's trump card.

India VS England Live Score – T20 World Cup 2012

England skipper Stuart Broad won the toss and decided to field against India in their final group league encounter in the ICC World Twenty20 on Sunday.

"We have batted in the first game, so it is nice to field first," Broad said after winning the toss.

England brought in Tim Bresnan for Samit Patel. Whereas, India have left out Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, Ravichandran Ashwin and Manoj Tiwary for the inconsequential match.

India's listless bowling attack will aim to put up an improved performance ahead of the Super Eight stage as both teams are through to the 'Super Eight'.

While the Indian team management will be looking to plug the loopholes that appeared in the match against Afghanistan, England, after a facile 116-run win, will look to repeat that performance against a much better team.

The cause of concern for India across all formats has been their bowlers and it is no different in Twenty20.

Add to it, skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni's penchant for playing only four specialist bowlers always leaves the team in a high risk zone where it is expected that the part-timers need to perform above expectations.

The England team, on the other hand, bears a much settled look after their comprehensive win against Afghanistan was a testimony to that.

Teams:

India: MS Dhoni (Capt), Gautam Gambhir, Lakshmipathy Balaji, Piyush Chawla, Ashok Dinda, Harbhajan Singh, Virat Kohli, Irfan Pathan, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Yuvraj Singh.

England: Stuart Broad (Capt), Jonathan Bairstow, Tim Bresnan, Jos Buttler, Jade Dernbach, Steven Finn, Alex Hales, Craig Kieswetter, Eoin Morgan, Graeme Swann, Luke Wright.

Srilanka vs Zimbabwe Live Crickret T20 World Cup 2012

HAMBANTOTA: Hosts Sri Lanka open cricket’s World Twenty20 against Zimbabwe Tuesday, kicking off the country’s biggest ever sports event –and just three years after the end of a bloody civil war.

Mahela Jayawardene’s men will take the field in Hambantota, the southeastern home town of President Mahinda Rajapakse, with hopes high they can end a 16-year wait for their second global title in front of their cricket-obsessed fans.

The match, at 7:30 pm (1400 GMT), starts a three-week cricket fiesta involving 12 teams in coastal Hambantota, hill town Pallekele and the capital Colombo, where the fourth World Twenty20 champions will be crowned on October 7.

The tournament offers the “Teardrop Island” the chance to showcase its lush landscapes, beaches and temples, and turn the page on the 37-year ethnic conflict that claimed up to 100,000 lives.

In 2009, Rajapakse’s government declared victory over the Tamil Tiger rebels, a group notorious for suicide bombings. The brutal final offensive prompted a UN Human Rights Council resolution against Sri Lanka earlier this year.

“The T20 World Cup programme will provide an excellent platform to endorse the new Sri Lanka brand during the next three weeks,” said Nivard Cabraal, the central bank governor.

“I am confident that this trend will continue in the future, and those so-called international calls for (war crimes) investigation will fade away,” he said.

Sri Lanka start the tournament as marginal favourites, although predictions are notoriously difficult in cricket’s shortest format, which has revolutionised the sport and divided opinion since its introduction in 2003.

Home advantage will help the hosts, who have a well-balanced side including the newly crowned cricketer of the year, wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Sangakkara.

Sri Lanka won the 50-over World Cup in 1996 and have reached the tournament’s two most recent finals, along with the 2009 World Twenty20 title match which they lost to Pakistan.

“Lots of people have asked us why we have choked in the finals,” skipper Jayawardene said. “I’d rather be in that situation than being knocked out in earlier rounds.”

Defending champions England arrive with a youthful squad shorn of star batsman Kevin Pietersen, who is in international exile after a sequence of bust-ups with team management.

South Africa, the number one Test team, are seeking their first ever limited-overs world title, while the powerful West Indies would be a popular winner. The World Twenty20 is the one major trophy to elude Australia.

India, schooled in Twenty20 cricket in the lucrative Indian Premier League, won the inaugural event in 2007, while mercurial Pakistan will hope to reprise their 2009 title run.

The teams have been divided into four pools of three for the preliminary league, with the top two from each advancing to the Super Eights round.

If the seedings go to plan, fans can expect exciting cricket in the Super Eights — a week-long race to the semis and final.

England, the West Indies, Sri Lanka and New Zealand are seeded to meet in group one of the Super Eights, with the top two teams making it to the semi-finals.

Group two is already being billed as the “Group of Death”, with arch-rivals India and Pakistan seeded to face Australia and South Africa.

Kamran's 92 run flurry helps Pakistan win

Kamran Akmal's unbeaten 92run flurry helped Pakistan crush India by 5 wickets in its first warmup World Twenty20 cup match R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo Monday.

Pakistan chasing 186-win target lost first two wickets [Imran Nazir (13) and Nasir Jamshed (0)] early at 30 and 33 runs. It lost Mohammad Hafeez (38) at 84 runs nd Shahid Afridi (0) and Umar Akmal (2) seven runs later at 91.

From that point on Kamran Akmal and Shaoib Malik lashed out a flurry. Kamran's unbeaten 92 runs included 6 sixes and 5 fours while Shoiab's unbeaten 37 comprised 2 sixes and 2 fours.

Ashwin was the only successful bowler. He bagged 4 of the 5 Pakistani wickets that fell with the exception of Nasir Jamshed who was run-out.

COLOMBO: Arch-rivals India and Pakistan will get an early chance to size up each other ahead of the World Twenty20 when they clash in a high-profile practice match in Colombo next Monday.

The match, part of the warm-up schedule drawn up by the International Cricket Council, is the only one of 12 practice games that will be beamed live by the host broadcasters.

Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez welcomed the chance to play against India before the tournament starts on Tuesday.

“It is usually a high-pressure game and good for us to experience it early,” Hafeez told reporters in Colombo on Wednesday night.

India coach Duncan Fletcher said his team’s two warm-up matches — the other is against host Sri Lanka on Saturday — will be important preparations for the main event.

“We have come here with the belief that we can win the World Twenty20 and it is crucial we get attuned to the conditions,” Fletcher said. “We have obviously got a good build-up.

“We look forward to the two warm-up games which will give us the preparation we require for the tournament.”

India and Pakistan have been drawn in separate groups for the preliminary league, but will meet in the Super Eights round in Colombo on September 30 if the seedings go to plan.

The two nations have played just two official Twenty20 internationals against each other, both during the inaugural world event in South Africa in 2007.

The league match in Durban ended in a tie with India winning the bowl-out, before the two sides met again in the final in Johannesburg, which Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s Indians won by five runs.

Bilateral cricket ties between the two nations, which had been suspended since the Mumbai attacks in 2008, are set to resume later this year when Pakistan tour India for three one-dayers and two Twenty20 games.

T20 World Cup 2012 Live Score

ICC Twenty20 or T20 World Cup 2012 is going to be held at Sri Lanka and the tournament will start from 18 September 2012. The final match of the tournament will take place on October 7, 2012 and Sri Lankan cricket board is now working night and day to ensure smooth organizing of the event. This is the fourth T20 World Cup and for the first time it is taking place in South Asia or Asia. Right now, in Sri Lanka, Sri Lankan Premier League T20 event is taking place and just after that the Sri Lankan cricket fans will be able to enjoy the perhaps the second biggest cricketing event in the world.
Sri Lanka is a cricket power and it has good performance in T20 World Cup so far. All the matches will be played in three stadiums and they are Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, R Premadasa Stadium and Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium. Of these three grounds, Pallekele International Cricket Stadium and R Premadasa Stadium have crowd capacity of 35000 while the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium has crowd capacity of 60000. So, there will be no shortage of spectators.
Twelve teams are participating in the events and they have been divided into four groups. In each group, there are three countries and two top teams from each group will advance to the Super Eight and in Super Eight, there will be two groups. Again from Super Eight, the top two teams will move to the semi-finals. You can easily understand that after that the two semi-final winners will play in the final match.
Now, let us take a look at the groups and who are going to do well and advance in the Super Eight. In group A, teams are England, India and Afghanistan. There is an every possibility that England and India will not have any difficulty to advance into Super Eight and hardly anyone is expecting for Afghanistan to cause any upset.
In group B, the teams are Australia, West Indies and Ireland and again Australia and West Indies are most likely to advance easily. Group C may sound bit difficult as there are three strong countries in Sri Lanka, South Africa and Zimbabwe. I am expecting that Zimbabwe will give some trouble to the two other countries in T20. However, it is true that Zimbabwe does not have the strength that they used to have in the past.

Group D is another tricky group involving all the three countries that play Test matches and they are Pakistan, New Zealand and Bangladesh. Pakistan is most likely to advance into the Super Eight very easily and there is a good chance that Bangladesh may cause an upset against New Zealand. The recent form of Bangladesh is not bad and New Zealand has suffered a lost in the last one year. So, I am hopping that Bangladesh may move into the Super Eight with Pakistan.

I have already stated that Sri Lankan Premier League T20 event is taking place now and the players who are taking part in it are most likely to get some advantage. They will get good practice for the Sri Lankan condition and this is something that may give age to both Sri Lanka who is the host of both SLPL and T20 World Cup 2012 and Pakistan. Pakistan may get some advantage because a number of Pakistani players are participating in SLPL and they are also getting good practice. Another country that is in action now is India and they are playing against New Zealand. There will be a lot of pressure for India to perform.
I personally feel that it will be a South Asian country that will win the event and I think that it will be one of the teams among India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Outside of South Asia, England looks to be a balanced team and you can never count out Australia.

There will be a lot of pressure on Indian team to win this event because India is the current World Cup champion of One-day cricket. However, after winning the World Cup in the first part of 2011, things have gone very bad for India and they suffered some heavy losses in international cricket. So, Indian fans want something out of this event. When T20 World Cup started it was 2007. There was a lot of excitement but I think that IPL and other events like SLPL, Big Bash and BPL and even T20 events in England have perhaps decreased the attraction of T20 cricket. The main reason is that almost everyone there is an event of this shortage version of cricket and that is why it is difficult for fans to get too much excited.

As for television channels, it is Star Cricket that is going to broadcast the matches live for South Asia. Of course, each country has its own channels and in a separate entry in this Blog, we are going to give all the information that you need about TV channels of T20 World Cup cricket.

There is no doubt that T20 is the most popular format of cricket now a days. It is important not to try to make too much crowd of it. Because of IPL and other T20 events, this World Cup has lost much of its glamour. Well, ICC and the cricket boards of all the Test playing countries should think of making international cricket popular and always giving priority to international cricket rather than local T20 events. Here, we have to remember that it is international cricket that should come first.

Australia's T20 rankings dip below Ireland

Australia will begin this month's Twenty20 World Cup ranked 10th in the world in the shortest form of the game after losing a thrilling match to Pakistan in a 'super over' in Dubai.

The Australians matched the tally of 151 achieved by Pakistan late on Friday, sending the match to the single over shootout, in which they scored 11 runs only for the hosts to edge them by a single run off the last ball of the match.

Having been beaten by seven wickets in their first match against Pakistan earlier in the week, Australia lost the series 2-0 and dropped behind Ireland in the International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings.

Australia skipper George Bailey, who hit a brilliant 42 off 27 balls in the losing effort, was nevertheless upbeat after an improved performance by his team.

"I'm really pleased that we played a lot closer to what we're capable of," he added. "I think our guys will take a lot of confidence out of it. But to be so close, and then to lose, leaves a lot of questions in your head."

Australia, losing finalists at the last Twenty20 World Cup in 2010, have been grouped with Ireland and West Indies in the opening stage of the fourth version of the tournament, which takes place in Sri Lanka from September 18 to October 7.

Pakistan, who won the second Twenty20 World Cup in 2009 and are ranked fourth in the world, will play New Zealand and Bangladesh in their group matches.

The ICC World Twenty20 or ICC World T20 also referred to as the T20 World Cup is the international championship of Twenty20 cricket.
